Is it the LED light that saves electricity and money?

2022-09-07

When it comes to LED lights, everyone's first impression is that they are very energy-efficient, but whether it saves money is another matter. Let's talk about power saving first: LED lamps need to be compared with energy-saving lamps of the same wattage to measure whether they save power, so as to reflect the real power saving.

Let’s talk about it. As early as 10 years ago, when LEDs were produced, they began to pay attention to their power consumption and purchase price. Take a 1.2-meter LED tube and a 40w ballast to compare, LED tube The price of a complete set with brackets (of ordinary quality) is basically the same as that of the ballast light pipe. The power consumption of the LED is 21W (the inferior quality cannot reach 21W, only about 15W), and the ballast is 46W. It has been tested with a power meter. Calculated by lighting for 6 hours a day, the life of the LED is about 2 years. The ballast light tube It's almost the same, each LED can save 60 yuan in electricity for two years.

Well, let's talk about why many of our electricians strongly recommend using LED tubes in actual work, rather than installing ballast light tubes? The reason is very simple: there are at least 5 accessories in the ballast light tube, at least There are 6 movable contacts, as long as one contact is not in good contact, it will affect the normal use, and it is very annoying during maintenance. On the other hand, the LED tube only has contacts at both ends, and it will light up when it is plugged in. When it is not bright in the future, the owner can also replace it. Don't bother an electrician.

Let’s talk about the light weight when the electrician installs the LED tube, the wiring is easy and the space is large, and the ballast light tube is the opposite. The most important thing is said three times: heat, heat, heat! This is the biggest problem with ballasts. We have prohibited the installation of ballast light tubes on flammable materials. The LED tube also has its shortcomings. It looks dazzling and bright, but the actual luminosity is not high, and the light attenuation is large. It does not appear dim within a year. The brightness of the ballast light tube when it is used to the end of its life is also not much changed.

What is the principle of saving electricity like LED lights? Because LEDs use solid semiconductor chips as luminescent materials; while our commonly used light bulbs use metal to make luminescent materials (internal tungsten filaments), so the energy emitted is different. When a red LED emits light to a certain brightness, the power consumption is 15 watts; the light bulbs we used to use traditionally want to achieve the same measure; they consume up to 150 watts of energy.

In addition, scientists have determined that 30%-40% of the electrical energy can be converted into light energy when the LED is energized to emit light; while the conversion rate of ordinary energy-saving light bulbs is only as low as 7-10%, which is a very obvious comparison. ; To achieve the same lighting effect, it is obvious that LED lamps are more energy-saving than ordinary energy-saving lamps; that is, the conversion rate of the same energy, the distance between the two is widened to achieve the result of more energy-saving LED lamps. Using low-wattage LED lights compared to high-power ones can easily achieve energy savings.

Through the field test, ordinary brand LED lights save twice the power compared to the brand-name energy-saving lamps of the same wattage in the same environment and at the same time. It is based on the principle of electric energy conversion rate, and the distance between the two is widened. That is to say, the energy conversion rate of LED lighting with the same electrical energy is higher (lumens), and the power consumption required is not as much as that of ordinary energy-saving lamps, but the light source obtained is stronger. These are the results obtained by relying on high-tech research and development, so the answers obtained by combining scientific basis with practice can be convincing.

Each lumen is equivalent to a candle casting a square meter of illuminance one meter away. The ability of a light source to radiate to the surrounding space and cause it in unit time is called luminous flux. Expressed in Φ, the unit is called lumen (Lm). The luminous flux received per unit area is called illuminance, which is represented by E, and the unit is lux (Lx).

So the 5-watt LED energy-saving lamp, the actual test power consumption of 0.002 degrees in one hour subverts the data circulating on the Internet? Then there is only one possibility, the LED wattage is falsely marked, but after all, the LED wattage is falsely marked. The secret is disclosed. Double the virtual standard? Then the two may be the same power consumption rate. If low-wattage LED lights are used to obtain high-efficiency illumination, then LED lights can also achieve the purpose of saving power; from such an angle, LED lights will definitely save power.

In fact, this time is a very imprecise test, because the same wattage cannot be measured. In addition to proving that the LED lights are brighter, they are still brighter. Although low-wattage LED lights can be more power-saving than larger-wattage energy-saving lights, LED lights are more prone to failure and are not cheap, so everyone's consensus on LED lights is that it saves electricity and not money.
