Japan Cellid will start to supply samples of AR glasses Micro LED display module

2021-12-01

On the 10th, Japanese start-up Cellid announced that it will start supplying AR glasses display module samples "Cellid Waveguide 60", which is equipped with a 60-degree Micro LED display with the world's widest field of view in an optical waveguide structure.

It is reported that this innovative display module is made for AR glasses. The module includes a wider field of view optical waveguide and an ultra-compact Micro LED projector with a size of 1.2 cubic centimeters. It is worth noting that the samples to be supplied will only display a single green color, and the full-color display version samples are expected to be available in February 2022.

Cellid said that AR glasses have been regarded as next-generation devices after smartphones, and display modules dedicated to AR glasses need to achieve both a smaller size and a wider viewing angle. Compared with other similar display modules currently on the market, the Cellid Waveguide 60 display module has successfully achieved a wider viewing angle and a more compact size, which can meet the needs of next-generation AR smart glasses.

According to the data, Cellid was established in Japan in 2017. It is a start-up company focusing on nanotechnology and artificial intelligence technology. It mainly develops optical waveguide display modules for AR glasses and drives smart phones, tablets, and smart glasses. Performance space recognition software provides users with high-end user interface and user experience design (UI/UX). Its team has strong expertise in optical design.

On the 11th, Cellid also announced that it had raised 500 million yen in financing (approximately 27.82 million yuan), raising a total of 700 million yen in total.

Cellid revealed that it will launch a glasses model with the built-in Cellid Waveguide 60 at CES in January 2022, and plans to conduct comprehensive marketing centered in the United States. In addition, Cellid plans to transition the R&D phase from the manufacture of display module prototypes to the mass production phase in 2022. The funds raised this time will be used to strengthen the research and development of display modules, fully launch market promotion, and further promote the process of mass production.
